Nikon Issues New Verion of NX Studio Today with support for the Z8
Today, Nikon issues a big version update to their image editing software, NX Studio. This is a major update and fixed a number of issues. But the major change was it now supports processing of Nikon Z8 photos.
Again, I wish Nikon added a proper adjustment brush into NX Studio. The color point adjustment tool only allows local adjustments in the shape of a circle, pretty useless if you ask me!
More details and the link to the download page:
• Added support for the Z 8.
Added support for NEF (HLG) and HEIF photos created on a camera.
Added [Skin softening] and [Portrait impression balance] tools under [Portrait Enhancements] in the [Adjustments] tab; in addition, values for these settings can now be viewed under [File & Camera Information] in the [Info] tab.
Added [HEIF (HLG)] and [HEIF (PQ)] options for [Export as].
Entries for [Categories] in the [XMP/IPTC] tab can now be up to 256 characters long.
Made the point icons for [Color Control Point] easier to click.
Fixed the following issues:
- Errors would sometimes occur when pictures were printed with [Outside Bottom Right] selected for [User Comment] > [Position].
- NEF (RAW) pictures exported from ViewNX 2 after editing would sometimes be distorted.
- Profiles for pictures exported in NEF (RAW) format would sometimes not contain the expected information.
- Using keyboard controls to label pictures after zooming in would prevent the arrow keys being used for selecting pictures.
- Selecting [Delete original files after transfer] in Nikon Transfer 2 would sometimes result in transfer being interrupted.

It was a clear morning in Boise Idaho, perfect weather to observe the recent blue moon.
Normally, I would use the Nikon COOLPIX P950 camera but at the last minute, chose to use one of my full frame Nikon's instead.
Originally, I was going to use the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR lens but to keep the weight as low as possible, I store that lens without the tripod collar. I learned without the collar, there is no tripod mount on the lens body and since the moon would be setting soon, I didn’t have the time to mount the collar in time.
So, I ended up using the Nikkor Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S lens instead. I mounted the lens to the Z7II along with the Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x on my new Manfrotto Be Free Advance tripod along with up scaling with Topaz Photo AI created the resulting image.
Overall, I’m pleased with the results. Stay tune for reviews of all the mentioned equipment.
