Joel Sartore quietly exits Nikon’s USA Ambassador Program
I often visit the Nikon Ambassadors listing on the Nikon USA’s website to see if any changes have taken place, either additions or removals. On my recent visit, I noticed one name missing, that of Joel Sartore, of the Photo Ark fame. According to Joel Sartore’s website, he was invited and accepted Nikon ambassador membership in April of 2016 along with Matthew Jordan Smith, Deanne Fitzmaurice and Joey Terrill.

Photographing piano player Brandon Goldberg with the Nikon D850
Shortly after leaning that the young jazz pianist (he’s only 17!) Brandon Goldberg would be playing at one of our local jazz clubs, the Sapphire Room, I inquired to see if I could make a few environmental portraits. I was granted permission but the allocated time to capture images was very short, about 15 minutes between the early and later show and he needed to have dinner during that same time period.

Comparing The Specs of the New Nikon Mirrorless Z8 to the Nikon DSLR D850
OK, I was wrong! in my prior blog post, I said that there was a slight chance that the new Nikon camera launch on May 10th would be the successor to the Nikon D850, possibly a Nikon D880. I know, wishful thinking. OK, back to reality. As we all know now, Nikon announced the Z8, a slimmed down version of the Z9.

Are You Ready? Nikon Launch Event! Could It Be The Successor To The Nikon D850, The Nikon D880?
Who says the Nikon launch event on 05/10/2023 has anything to do with a new Z camera. Why couldn’t it be a new DSLR announcement? The next logical DSLR needing an upgrade would be the D850. Since the emphasis in the launch notice is the number 8 (assuming the Z8), the new D850 successor would also have lot’s of 8s in it’s title, the Nikon D880.
A Brief Review of the Nikon COOLPIX P950 Camera
Overall, I highly recommend the Nikon P950 camera for what it’s intended for, zooming in on a faraway subject. If your subject is in good light, and you make sure AF is locked on, you will be rewarded with photos that are perfectly acceptable for website use, social media and even for making prints to frame and hang in your home.
